Notion AI is the assistant built into Notion, the popular notes and document tool. You can ask for writing, summarization, or translation without leaving the page you are working on — one of the earliest products to make not opening a separate app for AI a real experience.
What it does

- Searching and answering across your own Notion pages — an AI librarian for an internal wiki
- Filling in and organizing database content
Answering from the information you have accumulated in your own Notion is the part a general chat assistant cannot offer.
Compared with ChatGPT
Dedicated chat assistants are better at deeper analysis and long conversation. Notion AI wins where you want to use AI in the flow of writing a note. Because the store of information and the AI are the same place, the cycle of write, accumulate, use naturally keeps turning.
If you are considering it
Notion AI is offered as a paid add-on or bundled into plans, and the pricing changes, so check the official site. If you already keep notes or a journal in Notion, it is worth trying. If you do not use Notion at all, building the note-taking habit first is the shorter path, even though it looks like a detour. It is the clearest example of AI moving into the tools people already use.
The same in-app AI is arriving in Google Docs and Microsoft Office, and document tools without AI features will soon be the exception.
