An assistant that produces deliverables
Kimi is the AI assistant developed by Moonshot AI, available through a browser and mobile apps. It answers questions, searches the web, writes, reads files, and understands images and video.
Kimi is the service name; within it you choose between models and modes such as K2.6, K3, and K3 Swarm. Kimi K3 is a model, Kimi Agent is the capability that uses several tools to carry work through, and Kimi Code is the product aimed at programming.

Ordinary chat answers one question at a time. Agent mode breaks a request into steps and combines search, code execution, and file creation to produce a deliverable. For large research jobs and bulk processing, K3 Swarm runs several agents in parallel.
Compared with ChatGPT and Claude
Kimi’s distinction is bringing research, Office documents, website building, and coding into a single workspace. ChatGPT and Claude have comparable features, but the available models, the file types produced, how agents behave, and how usage is counted all differ.
Within the service, matching the tool to the job — a fast model for simple questions, K3 or Agent for long documents and multi-step work, Kimi Code for programming — makes it easier to use.
Credits and cautions
Credit consumption varies by model and feature. Models that cost nothing in ordinary conversation may consume credits in Agent, K3, K3 Swarm, or image generation. Check the model and your balance before sending.
Documents and tables produced by AI can contain wrong figures and unsupported claims. Do not judge by the finished appearance — check against your sources. Before uploading company material or personal data, check your organization’s rules and the service’s data handling.
