Generation inside a production workflow
Adobe Firefly is Adobe’s generative AI creative service. Beyond producing images and video from text, it replaces parts of a photograph, extends a background, and creates vector assets, keeping creation and editing in one flow.
It is available as a standalone web service and built into Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe Express. Its defining characteristic is how readily an AI draft moves into Adobe’s editing tools for a person to finish.

Available features depend on your Firefly plan and which Adobe application you pair it with. Generation may consume generative credits, and high-quality video typically costs more than images.
Compared with ChatGPT Images and Nano Banana
ChatGPT Images and Nano Banana suit thinking through an image conversationally and revising it in dialogue. Firefly’s strength is what comes after generation: editing detail in Photoshop and connecting to an existing production process.
For advertising banners, social assets, and photo retouching where layers and sizes need precise adjustment, Firefly is convenient. Where you want to work out the composition through conversation, or stay in the assistant you already use, ChatGPT Images or Gemini’s image generation may be easier.
Commercial use and cautions
Trademarks, well-known people, resemblance to existing characters, and the rights attached to reference images all still apply. Using Firefly does not make every output unconditionally safe for commercial use.
Text within images, product detail, and hands are not reliably accurate. Check content and rights before publishing, and have a person finish the work where needed. Models and terms change, so check current documentation at the time you produce something.
